Vergne drives F1 car for first time

5 July 2010

British Formula 3 championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne was delighted to jump into a Formula 1 cockpit for the first time at the weekend as he drove Red Bull Racing’s 2009 machine at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Currently leading in BF3 by a healthy margin, Frenchman Vergne is set to pick up an F1 Superlicence as reward come the end of this season, as Red Bull counterparts Jaime Alguersuari and Daniel Ricciardo did in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

Red Bull’s Renault-powered RB5, which drove to a total of six race victories courtesy of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber last year, was also piloted by designer Adrian Newey, who adopted left-foot braking in a car for the first time.
