Vergne tops Snetterton test session

20 July 2010

British Formula 3 leader Jean-Eric Vergne led the way as testing came to a close at Snetterton on Tuesday. The Carlin driver achieved a best effort of 1:01.935 at the Quidenham circuit, just 67 thousandths of a second quicker than Hitech’s Gabriel Dias as his team-mate and leading Briton William Buller completed the top three.

With Rockingham having hosted the latest three rounds of the championship at the weekend, of which Vergne won the first, the teams travelled from Northamptonshire to Norfolk as Frenchman Jean-Eric confirmed the only sub-62-second lap time.

Also all powered by Volkswagen engines, Lucas Foresti, James Calado and Daniel McKenzie – another Rockingham winner – were fourth, fifth and sixth as Daisuke Nakajima set the best Mercedes time in seventh.

Further down the timesheets, the T-Sport led in the National Class once again, with Menasheh Idafar edging out team-mate and class leader James Cole by a tenth and a half.

Rounds 16, 17 and 18 of 2010 will be staged at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium next weekend
