Mäki determined to enjoy strong comeback

28 July 2010

Finland’s Mika Mäki returns to the Formula 3 Euro Series next weekend, having missed the first eight races of the 2010 campaign for financial reasons. The 22-year-old from Pirkkala, who has joined Motopark Academy, will be making his comeback at the Nürburgring in Germany.

After finishing second in Formula BMW ADAC and the Formula BMW World Final in 2006, Mika then clinched the title in Italy’s Formula Renault 2.0 series the following season. 2008 yielded two wins and sixth overall for Mücke in the F3 Euro Series, followed by another win and sixth overall for Signature-Plus in 2009.

“At the beginning of the season I lacked the budget for continuing my motor racing career,” Mäki explained. “Now I have found several sponsors and got a good offer from Motopark Academy. It's great to be back in the Formula 3 Euro Series, where I was really happy, in 2008 and 2009.

“I hope to be able to consistently score points in the remaining rounds of the season and to improve race by race until the season is over. I tested with the team last week and the tests went really well. With just ten laps completed, I had re-accustomed to the car - it felt as if I never had left.

“Nonetheless, I'm fully aware that I will have to work a lot, particularly when it comes to my fitness. I haven’t worked out that hard in the time when I haven't been racing and now I have to make an extra effort to make it back to my previous fitness level.”
