Webb and Vergne take poles at Spa

30 July 2010

Second placed championship man Oli Webb has followed up from his sixth fastest practice time by picking up pole position at Spa-Francorchamps for Saturday’s third race. However, the best second quickest personal time goes to championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne, who starts at the front for today’s Race 1.

Webb and Fortec topped the Friday morning timesheets with a best effort of 2:14.476, edging out Vergne by the narrow margin of just two hundredths of a second. Behind, Daniel McKenzie completes the top three in the second Fortec with Gabriel Dias between him and James Calado, who was on top in practice on Thursday.

In the National Class, James Cole unexpectedly beat T-Sport team-mate Menasheh Idafar despite losing significant amounts of time in practice.

“It was a really do or die lap,” said pole man Webb. “It wasn’t elegant in any way – I just knew that I had to go for it.”
