Oliver Webb had high hopes heading into the third British Formula 3 race of the weekend in Belgium, having started from pole position, although the Manchester man was fortunate to escape uninjured from a heavy accident at Les Combes corner.

After achieving pole for Saturday’s Race 3 on Friday, Fortec driver Webb first raced to results of fourth and fifth in Friday’s first two rounds of the weekend.

Having then led the pack at the start of the third race on Saturday, Oli ended up being spun into the wall at around 150 miles per hour following contact with the Räikkönen Robertson car of Columbia’s Carlos Huertas with just three laps remaining.

“The crash in the final race was really not the ending to the weekend I expected when I lined up on pole position earlier in the day,” Webb began.

“The car is pretty heavily damaged but the tub isn’t cracked, so it is repairable. I know the Fortec guys will do their normal excellent job in getting the car ready for testing next week and I am really grateful for their hard work.”
