Portuguese António Félix da Costa (Motopark Academy) secured the second win of the season for the Motopark Academy team. At the 3.629 kilometres long Nürburgring sprint circuit, the rookie took the lead at the start and kept Marco Wittmann (Signature) at bay for the remainder of the race. Alexander Sims (Mücke Motorsport) took the remaining podium slot.
Points' leader Edoardo Mortara (Signature) finished sixth in the race and and scored the final points. After ten rounds, he has a margin of 18 points in the championship standings. With 48 points, Marco Wittmann remains runner-up in the drivers' classification.
The start of the race was really bad for the Motopark Academy team. Before the first corner, Mika Mäki (Motopark Academy), Christopher Zanella (Motopark Academy) and Matias Laine (Motopark Academy) collided and all three drivers retired. After this accident, the safety car was out for three laps. Race leader António Félix da Costa remained in front at the restart and was able to build up a slight margin which he defended until the end. After Kevin Magnussen (Motopark Academy), he is only the second rookie driver to win a race this year.
António Félix da Costa: "I am really happy with my maiden victory. Especially after the difficult first half of the season, it is nice to finally see happy faces within the team. At the start of the race, I had the advantage that I still had fresh tyres for this race. But even after the tyres were beyond their peak, I succeeded in keeping fast drivers like Marco Wittmann and Alexander Sims behind me."
