Having made his Formula 3 Euro Series comeback at the Nürburgring on the first full weekend of August, Christopher Zanella is looking for a strong Race 1 result in order to benefit from the reversed grid situation for Race 2 as the championship makes it way to Brands Hatch this weekend.
Having competed in the 2009 season and finished 13th overall, Zanella has now driven a total of four 2010 races at the Nürburgring and Zandvoort with the Motopark Academy team. However, the Swiss driver admits that a period of adaption is being required.
“I'm contesting the Italian F3 Championship this year and am driving a Mygale there – that chassis requires a completely different style of driving to the Dallara I'm racing in the Euro Series,” the 20-year-old explains
“With the Dallara, you have to drive relatively slow at the apex of a corner to have the chance of accelerating again as soon as possible; therefore you have to brake earlier for a corner than with the Mygale and that was something I have had to re-accustom to, particularly as I hadn't had the chance of testing the car prior to my first race at the Nürburgring.”
Despite this, Christopher feels confident as the series makes its annual pilgrimage to Kent.
“Last year the Brands Hatch weekend turned out to be a rather positive one for me,” he continued. “I finished fifth in the first race and hope that it will once again be a good weekend for me. It's my goal to make it to the top eight in Race 1 to then benefit from the reversed grid format and secure a good result on Sunday.
“Following the race weekends at the Nürburgring and Zandvoort, I realised that I'm accustoming better and better to the car and enjoy driving it again.”
