ART and Mücke not contesting Macau GP

8 October 2010

It has been confirmed that respected Formula 3 outfits ART Grand Prix and Mücke Motorsport will not be entering this year’s prestigious Macau Grand Prix, which will be staged on the legendary street circuit next month.

Up alongside Zandvoort’s Masters of Formula 3, which is held in the European spring, the Macau Grand Prix has long since held the reputation of being the most important Formula 3 race of the year, with previous winners including Ayrton Senna, Michael and Ralf Schumacher, David Coulthard, Takuma Sato and Lucas di Grassi.

However, Frédéric Vasseur has explained his reasons for not attending the 2010 event.

"On the Wednesday prior to the Macau weekend, my drivers Esteban Gutiérrez and Valtteri Bottas will take part in the Formula 1 rookie tests,” the ART Team Principal said, referring to the two-day F1 session which will be staged in Abu Dhabi.

Mexican GP3 Champion Gutiérrez will be running with Toro Rosso whereas F3 Euro Series charger Bottas will drive for Williams, the team he already represents as reserve driver. “From my point of view, hurrying to Macau right afterwards just wouldn't make sense, as they wouldn't be fully focused for the first practice sessions,” Vasseur added.

Peter Mücke's reason for non-attendence is more simple, however, as his Berlin-based outfit has merely decided to skip this year's event.
