Asmer tests for Double R at Silverstone
25 February 2011 – There was a familiar face testing a British Formula 3 car at Silverstone on Thursday as 2007 Champion Marko Asmer visited the Northamptonshire circuit with the Double R team. The Estonian, currently out of racing, is presently planning a comeback for 2011.
The test was the second recent run for Double R, who tested Karun Chandhok at Pembrey last week. In wet conditions, Estonian and former BMW Formula 1 test driver Asmer recorded a string of respectable lap times and now hopes to put together a full season of racing, having struggled financially in recent years.
“It was difficult to gauge accurately because there was no official timing and other teams were concentrating on development work, but Marko did a good job and set some competitive times,” said Double R Team Manager Malcolm Swetnam.
“Nothing is set in concrete yet but we would like to do the FIA F3 races and so would Marko, so we are working towards setting something up.”
