The Netherlands’ Nigel Melker led the way on Monday as the fourth and final day of Formula 3 Euro Series testing came to an end at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya. With a best effort of 1:38.251, the Mücke Motorsport driver was atom the listings from Signature’s Marco Wittmann and Motopark Academy’s Kimiya Sato.
“Finishing first always feels nice,” said Melker, who switches to the championship from GP3 for this season. “We tested a lot of new things on the car and today's morning session went really well.
“Nonetheless, you mustn't forget that I've got clearly less Formula 3 experience than many of my opponents. Therefore, this test shouldn't make me enter the season with my expectations too high. It goes without saying that I'd love to win the title but making it to the top three remains my goal, nevertheless.”
Further back, Spain’s own Roberto Merhi dropped to fifth – having begun the test on top - as Laurens Vanthoor, Daniel Juncadella, Kuba Giermaziak and Gianmarco Raimondo rounded out the top eight.
