The Netherlands’ Nigel Melker led the way on Friday morning as the first Formula 3 Euro Series practice session was held at Paul Ricard in France. Behind the Mücke Motorsport driver's best effort of 1:52.639, Roberto Merhi of Spain and Germany’s Marco Wittmann completed the top three.
Merhi led the way early on and the Barcelona driver was soon joined in the top two by compatriot and Prema team-mate Daniel Juncadella. The duo looked set to retain their 1-2 before Melket’s best lap time was registered shortly before the hour-long session ended.
As Wittmann jumped up to third place for reigning Champions Signature, Japan's Kimiya Sato and Motopark Academy rounded out the top five in the 12-car field.
Qualifying at Paul Ricard begins at 2:25pm local time (BST +1)
