Signature-Plus driver Marco Wittmann grabbed his second win of the weekend at the Norisring on Sunday, fending off Prema rival Roberto Merhi during another intense battle for victory. The pair were closely matched throughout, pulling a significant gap back to the rest of the field in similar fashion to yesterday’s second race. Daniel Abt completed the podium, finishing some 14 seconds off the lead.
Persistent rain ensured a Safety Car start at the German venue, enabling Wittmann to find his feet at the front of the pack. Merhi quickly progressed to second place as green flag racing began, applying significant pressure on Wittmann once again. However, consistent driving from the German saw him take the chequered flag first, just over two seconds ahead of Merhi.
Behind Abt, Belgian Laurens Vanthoor made up for the Race 2 penalty he received yesterday, crossing the line in fourth place. Numerous spins and incidents allowed Felix Rosenqvist to claim fifth, with Kuba Giermaziak, Felix Rosenqvist and Kimiya Sato following closely. Guest driver Sandro Zeller finished a lap down in ninth, while Dutchman Nigel Melker completed the top ten.
