Roberto Merhi was left with mixed feelings after Sunday’s Masters of Formula 3 race at Zandvoort, with the Spaniard being disqualified from ninth for a start-line incident with Prema team-mate Daniel Juncadella. However, the Spaniard still managed to seal the 2011 FIA International Trophy due to his unbeatable points advantage after the event.
"I am very happy to have won the first championship of the season, although I would also have liked to take the Masters of F3 Zandvoort trophy," said Merhi, who has won seven races in the current F3 Euro Series campaign.
"It is a race which I have previously been in a position to win, but seems that I have no luck with it.
"With the FIA International Trophy in my pocket, my next goal is to claim the F3 Euro Series title, but first I'll take a week off to get the batteries recharged for Silverstone in September."
