Malaysia’s Jazeman Jaafar led the way at the Rockingham Motor Speedway on Friday, coming out on top after three 50-minute test sessions. The Carlin driver produced a time of 1:12.656 in the morning to lead Pietro Fantin by little more than one tenth of a second, while Danish team-mate Kevin Magnussen completed the top three.
On a day almost completely dominated by the Carlin team, fourth to seventh on the timing screens were filled by the team’s remaining four drivers. Rupert Svendsen-Cook led the British charge ahead of Carlos Huertas, with Jack Harvey and Felipe Nasr narrowly trailing the pair. Double R pairing Pipo Derani and Scott Pye were next up, delivering competitive times to break into the top ten.
Will Buller found himself in tenth at the end of the day, his personal best time also being set in the early stages of the day. Fortec’s Harry Tincknell and Lucas Foresti featured down in 12th and 13th respectively, while Hywel Lloyd led the Sino Vision Racing charge with the 14th fastest time, the only man to improve in the final session.
