Sims, Evans and Silva to race at Silverstone

3 October 2011

Alexander Sims will make a return to British Formula 3 for the season finale at Silverstone this weekend. The Englishman, McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner in 2008, will be joined by fellow GP3 driver Mitch Evans and Brazil’s Guilherme Silva.

Having finished sixth overall in GP3 after leading the title race earlier in the season, Sims continues to make preparations for the 2012 season but thoroughly looks forward to a one-off British F3 outing with German outfit Motopark.

“I haven’t driven an F3 car for a year and have not worked with Motopark before, so no expectations,” says Sims, who won a British F3 race at Silverstone last year when driving as a guest driver with ART. “I’ll wait to see what happens and plan to enjoy the experience.”

With plans continuing to be sorted for the prestigious Macau Grand Prix, Sims clarifies the reasoning behind his unexpected Silverstone appearance.

“I needed to do an F3 race in order to qualify for Macau and this was my best option,” explains the 23-year-old Londoner. “Hopefully, having done two years of F3, I will quickly be able to get back on terms with the car.”

At Hitech, 17-year-old Brazilian Silva makes his debut in the championship as New Zealand’s Evans – ninth in GP3 after finishing runner-up in the 2010 Australian F3 championship - teams up with Double R.
