Felix Rosenqvist was able to deny Roberto Merhi of his targeted clean sweep of victories at Hockenheim on Saturday afternoon, winning his maiden F3 Euro Series race in fine style. The Mücke Motorsport driver led his Spanish rival home by 1.901 seconds, while Daniel Abt completed the podium finishers.
A storming getaway from Rosenqvist saw him jump up to third by Turn 1, slipping past the cars ahead from seventh on the grid. The Swede then promptly overtook eventual third place finisher Abt, before moving into the lead on only the third lap, pulling off a clean pass on Carlos Muñoz (who later recieved a drive-through for jumping the start).
Merhi and Abt had no answer for Rosenqvist's pace in the closing stages, having to settle for podium places ahead of Marco Wittmann. Dutchman Nigel Melker and Daniel Juncadella were next up in fifth and sixth, with Kimiya Sato and Jimmy Eriksson the last men involved in what was a seven-car battle.
Laurens Vanthoor could not repeat his Race 1 podium finish and ended up ninth for Signature, with Facu Regalia rounding out the top ten drivers.
Sunday's Race 3 begins at 11.15am local time (BST +1)
