Organisers of the British Formula 3 championship have released a 29-race calendar for 2012 which will take the series to four different countries and includes races on the full Grand Prix circuits of Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Donington Park.
A new-look British F3 will grace the grid of Silverstone on the mid-March Easter weekend, with a selection of new drivers accompanied by modified regulations and the brand-new Dallara car. The season will also include a special visit to the legendary Pau Grand Prix event in May.
"The 2012 season will be a fascinating one on many levels, not least because it will see the introduction of a new Formula 3 chassis featuring many safety enhancements,” says SRO General Manager Lisa Crampton.
“We also expect to see a revitalised National Class now that a greater number of older chassis are available to drivers. We are still considering further regulation options and will be looking closely at the reintroduction of pit-stop races.”
Rule modifications include the following:
- Full championship points handed out for Race 2 of 3 (previously the second race of each weekend offered only half points)
- Pau Grand Prix event to include two races of 30 and 40 minutes respectively
- Reserve grid draw altered; number of cars reversed will now vary between eight and 12, decided by a pre-race draw
- National Class Champion to earn test day with International Class Teams’ Championship winner
