Tincknell, Lynn secure Silverstone poles
12 April 2013 – Carlin's Harry Tincknell and Prema driver Alex Lynn claimed the pole positions on offer for the second round of the Formula 3 European Championship at Silverstone, with the pair sharing the spoils from respective dry and wet qualifying sessions.
With dark clouds looming, Tincknell dominated the dry opening phase of qualifying and posted times strong enough to secure pole position for both the first and second races on Saturday. Of the overall fastest flying laps, which determine the Race 1 grid, the Briton's personal best 1:54.098 put him 0.323 seconds clear of compatriot Lynn, while Felix Rosenqvist and Raffaele Marciello grabbed the second row slots.
For the second grid of the weekend, produced from second quickest times in Q1, Tincknell retained an even stronger qualifying advantage, but this time over Mücke Motorsport rival Rosenqvist. Marciello and Lynn rounded out the top four positions, before a rain shower hit the Northamptonshire venue ahead of the second session.
Amid the persistent rainfall, Lynn stormed clear of the field and took the top spot for Sunday's third and final race. Marciello and Rosenqvist again featured inside the top three, with Jordan King claiming the final place on the second row of the grid.
Saturday's Race 1 at Silverstone begins at 10.20am local time (GMT +1)
