Marciello wins final race at Silverstone
14 April 2013 – Raffaelle Marciello claimed victory in the final race of this weekend's Formula 3 European Championship round at Silverstone. The Prema driver, who holds onto his lead in the overall standings, finished 1.5 seconds ahead of Felix Rosenqvist, with Britain's Alex Lynn claiming his second podium result of the weekend in third.
Mücke Motorsport driver Rosenqvist made the best getaway as the lights went out amid slightly damp conditions, jumping ahead of pole-sitter Lynn and front row starter Marciello into the first corner. He quickly pulled clear, but a Safety Car for a number of stranded cars slashed his lead and allowed the duo behind to close back in.
At the restart, Marciello took advantage of the early Safety Car line to surge past Prema team-mate Lynn, before attempting to get on terms with leader Rosenqvist. The Ferrari protege ultimately found a way through after a number of failed attempts, taking the lead away from his Swedish rival on the penultimate lap of the race.
Behind third-place man Lynn, Félix Serrallés was the final man to keep on terms with the leaders en route to his second points finish of the weekend. Will Buller bounced back from his Race 2 mistake to claim fifth, just ahead of Jordan King and Lucas Auer. Jann Mardenborough, Harry Tincknell and Nicholas Latifi completed the top ten.
The Formula 3 European Championship continues at Hockenheim from 3-5 May
