Disappointing weekend for rookie driver Tung

16 April 2007

GP2 rookie driver Ho-Pin Tung (24) crashed out of the race in Bahrain on lap 4 and suffered a minor wrist injury. It marked the end of the Chinese/Dutch driver's first race weekend in GP2.

"I was in 9th place. Shortly after the safety car came in I was defending the racing line when someone hit me from behind and I went straight into the wall," explained Tun.

"I am very disappointed, I did the best I could to finish the race in a good position but unfortunately this ended my race," Tung said. "The driver responsible for the drama, Japanese DAMS-driver Kazuki Nakajima, was already involved in a big crash in Race 1."

Reviewing his maiden GP2 weekend Ho-Pin Tung said: "I am not satisfied with my first GP2 weekend, I want to win. Then again, despite any testing we didn't do too bad.

"It took some time to get used to the GP2 car, everything is different, the brakes, the down force, gear shifting but with every minute in the car I feel more comfortable. I am looking forward to the next race in Barcelona but I am well aware everyone tested there before and I haven't, but I will try as hard as I can!"
