23 January 2009 – GP2 rookie driver Edoardo Mortara has qualified himself in his very first GP2 qualifying session in fourth position. The Italian's stunning performance scored him second row at Friday's grid. His Arden team-mate Luiz Razia will start from 18th position.
Speaking about his qualifying performance Mortara commented on Bahrain: " I am really happy with the qualification result today. I had a good feeling with the car and I managed to stay pretty much out of the traffic. My team has done a superb job. Lets not forget that the race is tomorrow and my objectives are to finish the race and get a result, that will hopefully be incredible, considering it will be my first ever GP2 race."
