Ocean Racing Technology signs Parente

10 March 2009

Ocean Racing Technology has signed Portuguese star Alvaro Parente for the new season; Parente joins Indian Karun Chankhok to complete a line-up which had previously been tipped by the team's owners to contain a 'fast and reliable Portuguese driver'.

With that driver now confirmed, team owner Tiago Monteiro was satisfied to have secured a recognised talent: "Alvaro Parente is a fast and focused driver and he has a knack to adapt to a new team, car or championship. We are delighted to welcome him onboard and we think that, with Karun and the team's great work as well, we will have what it takes to be competitive right from the start of our maiden year in GP2.

24-year-old Parente was more than pleased to sign the contract as he continues his journey up the racing ladder: "I am really happy that we made a deal with Ocean Racing Technology. The season should be exciting but we'll have to work hard to secure some good results as everything's new to the team. This is quite a challenge but I'm convinced that the team's work will pay off very soon as they are very professional. To drive for a Portuguese team is another new motivation as I'll be able to defend my national flag and I'm sure we'll benefit from the help and support of the Portuguese audience."
