Di Grassi penalised, Perera non-qualified at Spa

Di Grassi penalised, Perera non-qualified at Spa

28 August 2009

The fates of Lucas di Grassi and Franck Perera have been decided at Spa having spoken to race stewards following qualifying on Friday. The former will be demoted from his front row grid position whereas the latter will not take part at all for the rest of the weekend.

Di Grassi will drop three grid positions after being judged to have impeded Karun Chandhok during the session: the Brazilian, who finished the session in second position, will now start the race in fifth place, promoting championship leader Nico Hülkenberg to the front row alongside pole-sitter Alvaro Parente.

Perera, who qualified outside 107% of the pole position time, will not participate in either race this weekend: the Frenchman was also twelve seconds off the top position in the rain-affected free practice session and as such was unable to point to that session for an indication of his speed on the circuit.
