Rossi to start from back of grid

5 February 2010

Alex Rossi will be starting Friday's first GP2 Asia Series race of the weekend from the back of the grid in Abu Dhabi. The American qualified fifth for the Meritus team at Yas Marina but was later found to be running with an illegally adjusted front wing.

The news of Rossi's penalty compounds a bad qualifying session for Meritus, which had high expectations after Luca Filippi topped the earlier practice; with the Italian suffering technical problems, he now moves up to 19th following his team-mate's penalty.

'During a pit-stop a mechanic adjusted the front wing hole setting on one side to 17 and on the other side to hole 18 which is not allowed - a simple human error,' a team statement reads.'

Having stopped in qualifying with a smoking car, Filippi's issue was later diagnosed as a gearbox problem.
