Having suffered from a selection of technical problems in the final pre-season test session in Spain, Fabio Leimer was thrilled to have taken victory away from the sprint race at the Circuit de Catalunya on Sunday.

After qualifying 11th on Friday, the Ocean Racing Technology driver raced to eighth in Saturday's feature race, which handed him pole position for Round 2.

Four seconds ahead of his nearest rival by the time the halfway point arrived, the Swiss driver then nursed his tyres to an eventual from Rapax man Luiz Razia, who caught up to within seven tenths of a second behind.

"To finish my first GP2 weekend with a win is fabulous," said Leimer, the reigning International Formula Master Champion. "The car was perfect and it proves the team is doing an excellent job.

"Our aim is to stay among the best. It is a very special feeling for me and for all the members of the team because the GP2 Main Series is a very competitive championship and the best way to enter F1. I could not be happier."
