Maldonado tops practice at Silverstone

9 July 2010

Championship leaders Pastor Maldonado and Rapax topped the timesheets as the regular half-hour practice session was held at Silverstone at the start of Friday afternoon. Giedo van der Garde's Addax was just over a tenth of a second off the pace as Luca Filippi made a return to replace the recovering Josef Kral at Super Nova.

Following the first Formula 1 practice session in England, GP2 took to the track amid equally pleasant conditions as the 30 minute period began just before noon.

Maldonado eventually led the way courtesy of a best lap time of 1:40.393 although a number of drivers pushed too hard in the new Arena section of the circuit, often resulting in spins.

Luck was not with Luiz Razia in the second Rapax as his car stopped just ten minutes into the session. Barcelona race winner Fabio Leimer's Ocean also suffered issues as the engine failed approximately five minutes before the chequered flag flew.

Qualifying in Great Britain begins at 3:55pm local time (BST)
