Six grid penalties applied after qualifying

GP2: Abu Dhabi 2010: Friday qualifying results

No less than six drivers have been handed ten-place grid drop penalties ahead of Saturday’s GP2 Feature Race in Abu Dhabi. The punished drivers, including front row man Dani Clos, drop back after being adjudged to have driven past the red pit exit light in Friday afternoon’s qualifying session.

The pit exit is closed when the red light is illuminated although Racing Engineer’s Clos, Champion Pastor Maldonado of Rapax, DAMS’s Jérôme d’Ambrosio, ART Grand Prix pairing Jules Bianchi and Sam Bird and Addax’s Giedo van der Garde (pictured) will all head towards the back of the grid.

The most significant upshot of the reshuffle is that Sauber-bound Sergio Pérez of Addax – currently ahead of Bianchi by eight points - will now join iSport’s Oliver Turvey on the front row as he attempts to confirm second in the standings.
