Bridgestone waves goodbye to GP2

21 November 2010

It is not only Formula 1 with which Bridgestone has parted company, as the Japanese tyre manufacturer will also be replaced by Pirelli in GP2 next year, with the Milan-based firm having already supplied other feeder series GP3 for one season.

Bridgestone has been the supplier of GP2 since the series took over from F3000 for 2005, with Champions having been Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton, Timo Glock, Giorgio Pantano, Nico Hülkenberg and Pastor Maldonado.

“We are very, very pleased that so many current Formula One drivers came from GP2,” says Hiroshi Yasukawa, the Director of Bridgestone Motorsport.

“Even when Bridgestone started in GP2 six years ago, we were working with numerous talented drivers including Nico Rosberg and Heikki Kovalainen.

“There has always been a good relationship between Bridgestone and the GP2 Series. The GP2 organisers are very dedicated people and they provided us with all of the correct information needed in order to produce the right tyres for GP2.

“Along with our ideas and experience from our research and development, we were well-equipped to develop and supply innovative Bridgestone Potenza tyres.”
