Bird and Ericsson join iSport for 2011

13 January 2011

The iSport GP2 team has announced that Britain’s Sam Bird and Sweden’s Marcus Ericsson will contribute to an all-new line-up for the upcoming season, with the outfit having run Oliver Turvey and Davide Valsecchi in 2010. The new duo move in from ART and Super Nova, respectively.

The modified line-up was confirmed at Birmingham’s Autosport Show on Thursday, with the pair both aiming for the championship title this year after Bird collected a maiden GP2 career win in 2010.

“I'm really excited,” the Englishman - Formula 1 reserve driver for Mercedes GP - began. “It's the right move at the right time in my second year of GP2. I think iSport has the engineering expertise to push me hard and I have a team-mate to push me hard. I think we're ready for a title push now.”

Ericson added: “As usual in GP2 there’s going to be a lot of guys who are very strong. Addax has a strong line-up with Pic and van der Garde, of course ART is always up there and there will be plenty more good drivers - it's going to be a very tough year.”
