Grosjean and Varhaug confirmed by DAMS

25 January 2011

The Le Mans-based DAMS team has announced that Romain Grosjean and Pål Varhaug will be its drivers for the upcoming GP2 season, with the former continuing in the series whereas the latter moves in following a successful campaign in Formula 2.

“It's a great challenge for 2011,” commented Franco-Swiss Grosjean, who competed in Formula 1 Grands Prix for Renault in 2009. “For a few races last year, the team welcomed me with open arms and I quickly realised that we were united by the same goal – reaching the top!

“I’m now counting down the hours to my first laps of the year and my relationship with each member of the team is very strong, both on a personal and professional basis.

"I have not the slightest doubt about the level of performance from the car and am sure that we’ll get the best out of it. Together, we’ll be aiming for the title.”

“A dream come true, as I prepare to race for one of the best teams in GP2,” Varhaug added ahead of his debut. “I'm now in Formula 1’s basement - an important step towards my goal of becoming the first Norwegian to reach the pinnacle of motorsport.

“I couldn’t wish for a better team-mate than Roman, who is simply one of the fastest drivers in the world. I hope to progress at his side. For me, this will be a learning season before hoping for victory in 2012.”
