Jules Bianchi was in a very positive mood after Friday’s season-opening Feature Race in Abu Dhabi, where the 21-year-old registered his first race victory since his various Formula 3 activities in 2009. Bianchi snatched the lead from Romain Grosjean off the line, and went on to take a commanding victory at the state-of-the-art Formula 1 venue.
"This was my first victory since 2009, so it's very nice to start the season this way," the Lotus ART driver said. "Romain was very fast at the start of the race. I tried to create a gap, but could not, so I decided to look after my tires, so at the end of the race I could still push. It was not easy. Fortunately, he made some mistakes and wore his tires out more than mine, so I still could build a nice gap."
Ahead of the Sprint Race on Saturday, the Frenchman has stated that he is hoping to finish in the points, but does not think a repeat of his victory will be possible: "I do not think it is possible to overtake here. The speed is good, but we have to wait," he added. "I’m looking forward to a good start, and will definitely finish in the points."
