GP2 Asia Bahrain races also cancelled
22 February 2011 – The GP2 Asia Series will not be visiting Bahrain during the 2011 season, with CEO Bruno Michel confirming that neither of the scheduled rounds (2 and 3) are going to take place at the Sakhir International Circuit. Despite the cancellations, a decision over possible replacements for the gaps in the calendar has not yet been made.
Following protests in the capital city of Manama, organisers have decided that the safest option would be to avoid racing at the venue, the same decision made by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone after guidance from the Crown Prince.
GP2 Series CEO Bruno Michel commented: "We are very sad to see Bahrain removed from this season’s calendar. It is always a great pleasure to go there where we have been cordially welcomed with professionalism since 2005. We are looking forward to going back there soon."
