Fauzy inherits Sprint Race pole

20 March 2011

Fairuz Fauzy has claimed Sunday afternoon’s Sprint Race pole position, with race stewards deciding to penalise Davide Valsecchi for irregularities with the floor of his car. After a difficult qualifying session, Fauzy fought through the field to finish ninth, but due to his one place promotion and the reverse grid rule, he will now start at the front.

"Today was a very good effort from the team, so I would like to thank them," the Super Nova Racing driver said about Saturday's Feature Race. "My car was fast and our pace was consistent throughout the race, which was helped by a good, late pit stop which meant that I was in clean air for most of the time.

"We started from P21 and finished eighth so we couldn’t ask for much more than that today. The only problem I had was some damage on the front wing for the last six laps which meant that I was unable to challenge the cars in front having caught them. I am very happy to start from pole and believe we have the pace to challenge for the win."
