Ocean signs Cecotto and Mirocha for Main Series

5 April 2011

Tiago Monteiro’s Ocean Racing Technology has confirmed its driver line-up for the upcoming GP2 Main Series, which begins in Turkey next month. Competing alongside Johnny Cecotto Jr. will be German Kevin Mirocha, who makes his debut in the Formula 1 feeder series.

After competing in Formula BMW and Formula Renault, German-Venezuelan Cecotto – son of ex motorcycling road racing Champion Johnny Sr. - switched to the German Formula 3 championship before making his GP2 introduction with David Price Racing in 2009. Last year, he scored three points with Italy’s Trident team.

“I am very grateful to Ocean Racing Technology for giving me this opportunity,” he commented. “I will do my best and I hope that we can fight for the wins that we deserve. It's a sound team with very experienced members.”

19-year-old Mirocha began karting at the age of 13 and in 2010 achieved one win and three podium finishes from seven races in the Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup.

“I am very happy to be entering the championship with Ocean Racing Technology,” he said. “It is very nice to get a start with such a professional team. I have everything to learn, but I am confident that with the team's help I should be able to quickly find the right rhythm. I will be the youngest driver in the GP2 Series, but I am very confident!”
