Valsecchi receives 10-place grid penalty

GP2: Turkey 2011: Friday qualifying results

Davide Valsecchi will start the first GP2 race of the season from 18th after being hit with a 10-place grid penalty for his actions during the 30 minute qualifying session. The Team AirAsia driver caused a red flag shortly after coming to a halt when making his way onto the back straight, before rolling his car back in the direction of other cars.

"I am really disappointed, because after a strong start we have been really unlucky," Valsecchi said. "Unfortunately during the session we had a problem with the engine switching off which resulted in me making what has been deemed a dangerous manoeuvre and being dealt a penalty.

"It will be difficult to start from 18th place on the grid tomorrow, but we will see - hopefully I can get a good start and collect some points at the end of the race."
