Romain Grosjean headed the only GP2 practice session of the weekend on Friday afternoon, edging out Davide Valsecchi and Jules Bianchi at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya. However, Sam Bird – with whom Grosjean shares the championship lead – ended the half-hour period in 24th position but with more laps to his name.
A bright Barcelona made for ideal conditions on Friday, with the field enjoying a clean session under Fairuz Fauzy repeated Pastor Maldonado’s Formula 1 error of earlier to slide into the gravel at Turn 12.
Outside the top three, Giedo van der Garde led the way from Filippi, Pic, Leimer, Varhaug and local favourite Dani Clos, who were all within a second of P1. Luiz Razia rounded out the top ten for Team AirAsia.
