GP2: Spain 2011: Friday qualifying results

France’s Jules Bianchi will start from pole position in Saturday’s GP2 Feature Race at Barcelona, having confirmed the top spot in Friday afternoon’s qualifying session. Behind the ART driver, Addax’s Giedo van der Garde shares the front row, with Sam Bird the leading joint championship leader in third.

Pole looked to be van der Garde’s until the dying moments, before Ferrari Academy member Bianchi registered his 1:30.369 effort. Numerous drivers were aggrieved by Fabio Leimer, though, as the Swiss – with a technical problem – crawled around the circuit before pulling off at Turn 6.

Charles Pic and championship leader Romain Grosjean make it three Frenchmen in the top five, with Davide Valsecchi and sole Spanish representative Dani Clos qualifying sixth and seventh. Ericsson, Coletti and Filippi round out the top ten.

Saturday’s Barcelona Feature Race begins at 3:40pm local time (BST +1)
