Following the opening Formula 1 practice session in Valencia on Friday, it was the turn of GP2 as conditions continued to improve in Spain. Ferrari Academy member Jules Bianchi led for ART with a 1:47.681 lap time, with Dutchman Giedo van der Garde and Italian Luca Filippi completing the top three for Addax and Super Nova.
Bianchi’s best effort came in the last knockings of the session, with the session having restarted after a red flag period. Romain Grosjean managed fourth but could have threatened the top spot, had he not been slowed by the iSport of Marcus Ericsson. Charles Pic confirmed two Addax cars and three Frenchmen in the top five as Dani Clos flew the flag for Spanish honours in sixth.
The session was relatively incident-free - especially in comparison with the action-packed Monaco moments of four weeks ago - although GP3 Champion and Sauber F1 reserve driver Esteban Gutiérrez did suffer a minor moment on his final flying lap, eventually crossing the line for eighth spot.
