GP2: Hungary 2011: Friday free practice results

GP2 championship leader Romain Grosjean led the way as the Hungaroring’s sole practice session drew to a close on Friday afternoon. With a best effort of 1:31.173, the DAMS driver edges out Racing Engineering’s Christian Vietoris and Addax championship contender Giedo van der Garde.

Although Fabio Leimer, Davide Valsecchi and Christian Vietoris all set quick laps in the opening stages, the eventual P1 time from Grosjean came in the first ten minutes; this eclipsed Adam Carroll, with the Northern Irishman enjoying the strongest performance so far since his comeback by eventually ending the period in sixth place.

Behind the aforementioned top three, Jules Bianchi and Dani Clos ended the session fourth and fifth, with other Britons Max Chilton, Sam Bird and Jolyon Palmer ninth, tenth and 20th respectively.

Qualifying begins at 3:55pm local time (BST +1)
