Grosjean leads Spa practice session

Grosjean leads Spa practice session

26 August 2011
GP2: Belgium 2011: Friday

GP2 championship leader Romain Grosjean has topped the timesheets in the series’ sole pre-race practice session at Spa. The Franco-Swiss driver, who could clinch the title this weekend, set his best lap time in the first half of a 30-minute period which was soon affected by rain.

With the shower coming, no rival was able to demote the Frenchman, although Luca Filippi vented his anger on the start/finish straight by driving up alongside Grosjean after the DAMS driver surprised the Italian with an overtake at the Bus-Stop Chicane.

Coloni’s other driver, Michael Herck, was second quickest as the iSport of Marcus Ericsson completed the top three on a still dry track. Giedo van der Garde, currently second in the standings, ended the session fourth for Addax despite a spin at the Fagnes Chicane.

There was damage for the Arden car of Jolyon Palmer, which lost control on a wet rumble strip and made contact with the wall.

Qualifying in Belgian begins at 3:55pm local time (BST +1)
