Stefano Coletti will make a GP2 return for Barcelona testing next week, GPUpdate.net has learned. The Monegasque driver came close to paralysis after crashing in Spa’s Feature Race this season, but has now recovered and confirmed test outings with both DAMS and Scuderia Coloni.
During the first Belgian race on 27 August, the Trident car of Coletti was launched over the back of Mikhail Aleshin before making contact with the Armco barriers at Pouhon corner. He retired from the race with a damaged floor, although doctors later informed him that he narrowly escaped being paralysed.
“My back is getting better and I have already been training again for more than a week,” Coletti told GPUpdate.net on Thursday morning. “I can do almost everything; the only things which still hurt a bit are the back exercises, especially the ones which work the upper muscles. But I am fine to drive.”
The 22-year-old has won two GP2 races in 2011, with these being the Sprint races of Turkey and Hungary in May and July, respectively.
Next week, testing at the Circuit de Catalunya will be staged across Wednesday and Thursday (19-20 October).
