DAMS confirms Haryanto and Melker for Final
3 November 2011 – The DAMS outfit has confirmed that Rio Haryanto and Nigel Melker will make up its formation for next weekend’s first ever GP2 Final event in Abu Dhabi.
GP2 will return for an end-of-season event which runs alongside Yas Marina’s Formula 1 race; next year, the Asia Series will not take place, with the Main Series simply running alongside a selection of F1 ‘flyaway’ events.
“I can't wait to compete in my first GP2 event,” says Indonesia’s Haryanto, who has been competing for Marussia-backed Manor Racing in GP3. “I'm sure that the experience will help me for the 2012 season.”
“First of all, I am honoured to drive in the 2011 championship-winning car,” adds Dutchman Melker, whose own GP3 season was spent with RSC Mücke Motorsport.
“I would like to thank the team for this opportunity and the chance they have given me This is a good opportunity for me as a rookie to get to know the team and to obtain more experience in this challenging series.”
