Lotus ART becomes Lotus GP

Lotus ART becomes Lotus GP

10 January 2012

The Lotus ART GP2 and GP3 teams will become known as Lotus GP for the 2012 season, it has been confirmed on Tuesday. The change comes as Group Lotus strengthens its association with the outfit owned by Frédéric Vasseur, which now adapts a legendary black and gold colour scheme.

“I am proud and happy to have the chance to give this new boost to the venture and to have the confidence of as prestigious an auto maker as Group Lotus, whose heritage in the sporting world is known worldwide,” Vasseur comments. “I am very happy about the sporting and technical prospects this partnership offers our team. It will enable both entities to capitalise on each other’s expertise in order to rise to big challenges in the coming years.”

The partnership between ART and Group Lotus, whose parent company is Malaysian government-owned Proton, is on both a technological and engineering level. In 2012, its ‘Lotus’ brand as a chassis name in Formula 1 moves to Lotus Renault GP, where 2007 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen spearheads the driver line-up.
