Caterham’s 2011 Formula 1 reserve driver, Davide Valsecchi, has joined the title-winning DAMS team for this year’s GP2 season. Headed up by Lotus Team Principal Eric Boullier, the French squad carried Romain Grosjean to the title last year.
Hailing from the Como region of Italy, Valsecchi – who turns 25 next Tuesday – claimed the GP2 Asia Series title of 2009-10 and now aims for overall success.
“It's a great honour for me to join the DAMS team,” says the seven-time race winner. “It'll give me the chance to drive a really competitive car and battle with the front-runners on a regular basis. In the light of the team's performance last season, I'm convinced that it'll provide me with a first-class single-seater in 2012.”
Valsecchi switches to DAMS from Tony Fernandes’ Team AirAsia.
