Brazil’s Luiz Razia took a dominant victory in Barcelona, finishing five seconds clear of Nathanaël Berthon and Davide Valsecchi in this morning’s GP2 Sprint race.
Razia made a strong getaway from pole position whilst Max Chilton, who started second, struggled off the line giving Razia’s Arden International car a clear run into Turn 1. A good start from Berthon allowed him to pass the poor-starting Chilton into Turn 2, along with current championship leader Valsecchi.
Britain’s James Calado wasted no time in overhauling Feature Race winner and Caterham Formula 1 reserve driver Giedo van der Garde. Soon After, Calado passed fellow countryman Chilton on the fourth lap.
Razia drove a controlled race at the front and his victory never looked in doubt, with the Brazilian taking his first win since the opening race of the season in Malaysia. Berthon took second, claiming the first GP2 podium of his career, whilst Valsecchi’s third place keeps the Italian ahead in the driver’s standings.
Valsecchi, with 129 points, is now 25 clear of race winner Razia, while Englishman Calado moves up to third on 69 points.
