Luiz Razia claimed another victory in the GP2 sprint race at Silverstone, holding off title rival Davide Valsecchi in the closing stages of the race. The Brazilian’s fourth win of the season now gives him a six point advantage over the DAMS driver.

Poleman Giedo van der Garde led the DAMS cars of Valsecchi and Felipe Nasr. Johnny Cecotto made a lightning start but was squeezed out and was passed by Razia. The Brazilian got passed both DAMS drivers and set pursuit on van der Garde.

The championship leader passed van der Garde for the lead at the chicane and immediately pulled a gap from the leaders. After this the Dutchman’s incredibly worn tyres relegated him through the field until an inevitable pistop.

Sauber reserve, Esteban Gutiérrez was having a strong drive through the field passing Melker before closing up to the back of Cecotto. Meanwhile, Valsecchi had passed team-mate Nasr and caught up within a second to Razia.

Razia resisted the pressure from Valsecchi to take the victory, with Nasr completing the podium. The final lap saw Gutiérrez run wide whilst attempting a pass on Cecotto for fourth but the Mexican ran wide and when rejoining, the pair collided putting Cecotto into the barriers.

Razia’s win now extends his newly claimed lead in the title. The Brazilian with 165 points leads Valsecchi on 159, while Gutiérrez stays third on 122 points.
