Luca Filippi was the man in charge as post-season GP2 testing began at the Circuit de Catalunya on Tuesday, with the Italian posting a time of 1:29.775 to lead fellow Scuderia Coloni driver Daniel De Jong by exactly 0.340 seconds. Nigel Melker, the second Dutchman in the 27-strong field, posted the third fastest time of the day.
Overcast conditions greeted the drivers at the Montmeló venue this morning, but air and track temperatures soon began to rise. At the midway point of the opening session Filippi delivered his fastest effort, while Melker and De Jong settled into their respective positions. Marcus Ericsson wound up fourth, while Rio Haryanto and AutoGP Champion Adrian Quaife-Hobbs completed the top six.
Stefano Coletti, who has already signed with Rapax for the 2013 campaign, ended the day in eighth position, with GP3 title winner Mitch Evans just behind. America's Jake Rosenzweig was the final man inside the top ten on the back of his four-race stint with Addax at the end of the season, with notable names Felipe Nasr, Alexander Rossi and F3 Euro Series Champion Daniel Juncadella ending up in the midfield.
