Tom Dillmann topped the timesheets on the opening day of GP2's pre-season test schedule at Jerez, producing a 1:25.059 in the afternoon session. The Frenchman, who was driving for newcomers Hilmer Motorsport, led Racing Engineering's Fabio Leimer by 0.189 seconds, while Carlin pilot Felipe Nasr completed the top three.
Clear blue skies welcomed the GP2 fraternity this morning, but most drivers spent the early hours in their garages, waiting for air and track temperatures to rise to a suitable level. It was Carlin's Jolyon Palmer who led proceedings before the lunch break, but he slipped back to fourth once the aformentioned trio improved their times.
James Calado wound up fifth upon his return to the cockpit, finishing the day just ahead of René Binder and Marcus Ericsson. Daniël de Jong, Johnny Cecotto Jr. and Stephane Richelmi rounded out the top ten, while Sauber reserve Robin Frijns ended the day 11th. Respective GP3 and AutoGP title winners Mitch Evans and Adrian Quaife-Hobbs began their fully-fledged GP2 careers in 16th and 20th respectively.
GP2 testing continues at the Circuito de Jerez on Wednesday morning
