ART's James Calado topped the timesheets on the final day of the opening GP2 pre-season test at the Circuito de Jerez, producing a personal best effort of 1:24.659 in the afternoon session. The Briton finished 0.386 seconds clear of Rapax rival Simon Trummer, while Racing Engineering's Fabio Leimer completed the top three.
Following overnight rain showers, the entire field - which did not include Tuesday and Wednesday pace-setter Tom Dillmann who is searching for a seat - opted for wet tyres early on. However, with clear skies and a flurry of track activity, the track surface soon warranted the use of slick rubber. At the end of the morning session, interrupted briefly by Johnny Cecotto Jr.'s stoppage, it was Adrian Quaife-Hobbs who led the way.
Every driver improved their respective in the afternoon, with conditions returning to a near-optimal level. Behind Calado, Trummer and Leimer, Monégasque drivers Stefano Coletti and Stephane Richelmi continued their encouraging pre-season pace, while Marcus Ericsson completed the top six. Jolyon Palmer was next up in seventh, just ahead of lead rookie Mitch Evans whose car ground to a halt in the late stages.
GP2 testing resumes at the Circuit de Catalunya from 5-7 March
