Stefano Coletti set the pace on the opening day of the final GP2 pre-season test at the Circuit de Catalunya, posting a late time of 1:29.868 as initially wet conditions improved. The Rapax driver led Felipe Nasr by 58 thousandths of a second, while Robin Frijns edged out morning leader James Clado to complete the top three.

Heavy rain and strong winds posed a significant challenge for the drivers in the morning, but as the day wore on lap times dropped by some 20 seconds. Coletti took full advantage of the ever-improving track surface and leapfrogged his rivals in a frantic final hour, with Carlin rival Nasr and lead rookie Frijns in close company.

Behind Calado, who held an advantage of nine tenths over the rest of the field in the rain-hit morning session, Johnny Cecotto Jr. and Fabio Leimer wound up fifth and sixth, with Stéphane Richelmi and Daniël de Jong a little further back. Carlin's Jolyon Palmer was next up in ninth place, while Daniel Abt rounded out the top ten runners.

GP2 testing continues at the Circuit de Catalunya on Wednesday morning
